Africa Food Show 2026: Primabake® Forges Strong Connections in Cape Town as Demand for Sustainable, High-Performance Baking Paper Accelerates

From June 10 to 12, the vibrant city of Cape Town became the epicenter of the African food industry as professionals gathered for the Africa Food Show. For Primabake®, these three days represented a vital continuation of the Papeteries du Léman (PDL) ongoing commitment to the African market—building directly on the valuable relationships and market insights we established during our recent participation at major industry events in Tanzania and Kenya.
As the exhibition draws to a close, PDL looks back on an incredibly productive week defined by strategic B2B networking, high-level technical discussions, and a reinforced vision for the future of sustainable food packaging on the continent.
Continuity and Growth: Deepening Our Roots in the African Market
PDL’s presence in Cape Town was not an isolated step, but rather the next logical phase in its regional strategy. Following successful engagements in East Africa—notably at Paper & Tissue Africa in Dar-es-Salaam and subsequent industry events in Nairobi—the Africa Food Show allowed PDL’s Primabake team to expand its footprint into Southern Africa.
“By consistently showing up on the ground, we have been able to witness firsthand the rapid maturation of the continent's supply chains. Industrial packaging converters, distributors, and major manufacturing partners are actively scaling up to meet a booming regional market. Our role with Primabake® is clear: providing the premium, consistent raw material that allows these industrial players to deliver top-tier, compliant solutions to the market.” Says David Degorce, Avere’s associated partner and sales representative for Primabake®.
Aligning Premium Sourcing with Industrial Standards
Throughout the event, the team’s conversations focused heavily on meeting the escalating standards of the broader food processing sector.
For converters and distributors catering to these demanding food professionals, two critical requirements dominated the booth discussions:
Exceptional Runnability and Technical Performance: In large-scale converting and high-volume production lines, paper performance is paramount. Partners were looking for a reliable product offering superior release properties, high thermal resistance, and optimal characteristics to deliver across applications.
Certified Food Safety and Compliance: As African regulatory environments evolve, there is a strict demand for certified, versatile, and non-toxic materials. Primabake® stands out by offering rigorous international compliance, ensuring that local converters can confidently supply the market with completely safe, premium options.
Sustainability as a Business Imperative
One of the most encouraging takeaways from this week was the clear evolution of the sustainability conversation. Driven by a desire to meet the green expectations of modern food professionals and eco-conscious consumers, industrial buyers are actively moving away from low-grade, chemical-heavy alternatives.
The Primabake® team engaged in numerous discussions regarding the ecological advantages of its paper. Engineered from responsibly sourced fiber, being compostable and recyclable, Primabake® offers a unique proposition for the African market: it bridges the gap for businesses that refuse to sacrifice mechanical performance for environmental responsibility.
Looking Forward
Leaving Cape Town, PDL’s team is incredibly energized by the shared vision found with its industry peers. The continuity from Tanzania and Kenya to South Africa has proven that the demand for high-performance, sustainable baking paper is cross-continental.
PDL extends its sincere thanks to all the converters, distributors, and industrial partners who visited its stand to explore collaborative opportunities. The company looks forward to transforming the insights gained this week into lasting partnerships that support the growth of a safer, more sustainable African food industry.
